Fine chemicals are complex, single, pure chemical substances. They are produced by traditional organic synthesis, and lately also using white biotechnology, in multipurpose plants according to exacting specifications. They are used as starting materials for specialty chemicals, mainly pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.
